The international LEGO Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen in Billund, Denmark and is one of the world’s largest toy manufacturers, employing approximately 9,000 employees in six continents. He named his toy company LEGO from a combination of two Danish words “leg” and “godt” meaning “play well”. Coincidentally, “LEGO” means “I put together” in Latin.
